Unidos por Lanzarote has formally requested from the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, all documentation related to the hiring, duties, and payments made to lawyer Ignacio Herrero using municipal public funds and, above all, explanations as to "what this gentleman has been doing in recent years, since no one has seen him at the City Council."
The party demands to know how much money he has collected, what duties he has been assigned, and what specific work he has done for the City Council, as no one knows his tasks. It also requests the legal reports prepared, the judicial proceedings in which he has intervened, and the documents that prove the effective provision of his services.
Unidos por Lanzarote assures that "it has received information about the lawyer's payments with the Arrecife council, but that no one knows what he has been doing since there has been no effective physical activity in the municipal offices. For all these reasons, it demands documented explanations and not simple generic answers." "We want to have the reports, or proceedings that the Popular [Party member] has carried out with everyone's money," comments Laureano Álvarez.
"Public money is not for giving away to relatives and friends of the PP. If the City Council pays, it must be able to explain why it pays, how much it pays, and what it receives in return," the party maintains.
Unidos por Lanzarote warns that it is not enough to confirm a hiring or formally justify a payment; it is necessary to prove that the remunerated services correspond to work actually performed. The party asks the mayor to provide all documentation and clear up existing doubts about the destination of these municipal funds.
Finally, the party points out that "the initiative is part of the work of overseeing public management and defending transparency carried out in all institutions by Unidos por Lanzarote, a party that is committed to citizens being able to know how everyone's money is used."
