Paula Corujo does not clarify the future of Somos Lanzarote: "It will have to be debated and decided as a group"

The councilor of the formation in the Cabildo reveals that Borja Rubio left "a few months ago" his position as advisor to the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands

The councilor of Somos Lanzarote in the Cabildo, Paula Corujo, has defended that her party "is still alive" although she has stated that its future "will have to be debated." "It will have to be decided as a group," she said on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where she has not clarified whether she is in favor of continuing with the formation.

"I have the utmost respect for these ways of working in a group, I will express my opinion and I will also listen to my colleagues, and I would not like to say anything beforehand," she said.

What Paula Corujo has revealed is that Borja Rubio left "a few months ago" his position as advisor to the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands. "For personal reasons he left that responsibility but, as I said, Somos Lanzarote is still alive to the extent that it has people who continue to represent its acronym," she added, pointing to the case of Elisabeth Merino, who is a councilor in the Arrecife City Council, and hers as a non-elected councilor of the Cabildo.

However, Corujo has acknowledged that, after the last elections, Somos Lanzarote has experienced "a substantial change, both in the presence in the different institutions and in the work dynamics that they had", that has not met since before the pandemic, and that the party no longer maintains the premises it had.

"The last party meeting we had, which was an open assembly, was just before the dramatic situation we are experiencing with the coronavirus, and it is true that there was a meeting set to clarify the direction that Somos is going to take and that had to be suspended due to these specific circumstances, but that debate will have to take place, it will obviously take place soon and shortly, and those who will have to decide what happens with the future of Somos, will be the people of Somos."

It should be remembered that Somos Lanzarote experienced an internal crisis before the last elections, to which it decided to go with Nueva Canarias, a formation that last week confirmed the breakdown of that alliance. "The relationship with what may remain of Somos Lanzarote is null," they said from NC, from where they also announced the signing of Yoné Caraballo, who was a Somos candidate in previous elections.
