Papagayo Arena, Princesa Yaiza, and Son Bou would not meet the conditions to legalize their situation

At least three of the 22 hotels and apartments annulled by the courts would be illegalizable if the text presented this Thursday in the Council of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote were approved. These are the Papagayo Arena hotel in the Las Coloradas partial plan, the Princesa Yaiza and the Son Bou hotel, in the Costa Papagayo partial plan, all three in Playa Blanca, in the municipality of Yaiza. The latter two belong to the well-known businessman of the island Juan Francisco Rosa.

One of the conditions to remain standing is not to have committed infringements regarding the height built. All three exceeded the number of floors built, according to the Urban Planning Legality report, prepared by the Cabildo of Lanzarote.

The Papagayo Arena, in addition, would fail to comply with another requirement, since it is built on a green area, an access corridor to the beach of Las Coloradas. For their part, both the Princesa Yaiza and the Son Bou have five floors built (three above ground and two below ground) and could only build one below ground and two floors above the surface.

If the text is carried out as it is written and approved in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, these hotels, along with the rest, would have to request a new license and initiate a process to validate the building constructed.

Due to their characteristics, everything indicates that at least the result for these three hotels would be negative due to the aforementioned non-compliance, so the Canary Islands Government should decree their closure and the end of their activity. The Law does not refer to a possible demolition of what has been built.
