The deputy of the Canarian Coalition (CC) for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, has assured this Wednesday in the Parliament of the Canary Islands the rejection of the parties that made up the Pact of the Flowers "to 14 initiatives presented by the opposition throughout the previous mandate" to subsidize the final price of fuel in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Betancort criticized that "after four years of turning a deaf ear", while he was in charge of the autonomous government, "to all these proposals" aimed at adopting said measure, the PSOE now shows its "opportunism" and has been "hooked" to the initiative adopted by the Executive chaired by Fernando Clavijo.
"And now that they know that the current Government of the Canary Islands is going to apply the bonus to the price of gasoline and diesel in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura they come with this song and dance," he added, to add then that "we, the Canarian Coalition, are going to do it, we are going to subsidize fuel for our people, because it is our duty, and my obligation as president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, for our taxi drivers and transporters in general, and also so that our fishermen find it more profitable to fish, to facilitate the work of our farmers and ranchers, our companies and freelancers, and ultimately so that our people live better."
In his presentation, the parliamentarian of the Nationalist Group denounced that "last legislature we brought to this Parliament up to 14 initiatives, requesting, asking, begging, that fuel be subsidized on the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, in circumstances very different from those of now, with an unprecedented economic paralysis, when our people were having a really bad time, and you didn't pay any attention, you scoffed and mocked."
In this sense, Oswaldo Betancort announced that "in order to compensate the citizens of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura for the extra cost of fuel, the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2024 will extend, via amendment, to both islands the application of a discount on the price of fuel through direct aid, as contemplated in the Bill for the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma".
