The Yaiza City Council, through its mayor, Óscar Noda, has reported that the City Council's telephone bill, which registered a higher amount than usual on a councilor's mobile phone, "has not been paid" and that, beyond that, "it has been rejected and will be issued again."
This response comes in response to the complaint that the candidate of the Canarian Coalition (CC) to the Mayor's Office of the municipality and Secretary of Organization of the Local Committee, Emilio Machín, made this week about the "7,000 euros of telephone expenses presented by a councilor".
For his part, Noda has pointed out that said receipt was registered on November 4, "but the amount of 7,000 euros does not exist: there is an invoice with an amount of 10,045.66 euros, which corresponds to the 3,000 of flat rate plus 7,000 of that increase that Machín criticizes".
An "oversight" regarding roaming
The first mayor of Yaiza explained during the plenary session this Tuesday that the City Council has two invoices that arrive every month, both subject to a flat rate: one that corresponds to fixed lines and the internet, for an approximate value of 6,000 euros, and another on mobile telephony, of about 3,000 euros.
"After contacting Telefónica and making the relevant arrangements, we have learned that the increase is due to a roaming issue", Noda detailed. Roaming or data roaming is the service that allows you to use your mobile phone when traveling temporarily outside your country of residence.
He also indicated that the increase in cost has been caused by "an error or oversight" and that the councilor to whom the amount belongs "has committed to pay the additional amount."
In that sense, the leader has stated that "the telephone company has already confirmed to us that this differentiation can be made, so that the invoice is canceled and only what has to be will be paid with public money, never anything else".
In this way, the City Council must pay the amount of 3,000 and some euros corresponding to the flat rate, and the rest will be borne by the councilor involved.
