Óscar Noda, new mayor of Yaiza

Óscar Noda González has been the new mayor of Yaiza since this Thursday. He has been appointed in the extraordinary plenary session in which the councilors of Unidos por Yaiza (UPY), Omaira Umpiérrez and Marcial Viñoly, have also taken office, after the resignations of Gladys Acuña and José Antonio Rodríguez for their convictions in the Stratvs case. Noda has received the support of the eight councilors of his party, UPY, and the vote of the PIL councilor, Daniel Medina, the two political forces that maintain "the government pact that has sustained the stability of management in Yaiza throughout the legislature".

Óscar Noda was supported in the Benito Pérez Armas House of Culture of Yaiza by family members, dozens of neighbors, by his predecessor, party colleague, president of UPY and parliamentarian of the Canary Islands, Gladys Acuña, by the also deputies of the Nueva Canarias Group (NC) Román Rodríguez and Luis Campos, and the mayors of Teguise and Tías, Oswaldo Betancort and José Francisco Hernández, respectively, among other public representatives present at the session.

The mayor of Yaiza conveyed in his speech his "total commitment at the head of the government group to achieve the highest levels of well-being for our neighbors throughout this year and a half that we have left to fulfill the mandate that the citizens have given us." Commitment that was also ratified by the PIL councilor, Daniel Medina, who also thanked "the support of all members of the government group and the management of Gladys Acuña."

"There is no room here for surprises and occurrences because this project is made, consciously, to improve the quality of life of all the residents of Yaiza and we are not going to deviate from that one iota," Noda insisted.

"Five lines of action"

The new mayor detailed the roadmap that will be followed divided into five lines of action. The first, "to strengthen the relationship of the Administration with the neighbors to continue defending a transparent, close and participatory City Council, where we invite all the councilors of this Corporation to govern with us again," he said.

A second "crucial" axis for the government led by Noda are social policies, where the City Council, "is more committed than ever," he stressed. In this sense, he advocated "never accepting that there are people living in undignified conditions in this municipality."

The third axis is the maintenance and provision of basic infrastructure in all the towns of the municipality, "of course, protected by the current state of healthy accounts and budgetary stability." "Because now we have the financial and investment capacity to be the municipal economic engine that we want," he said.

The fourth section of political action is Playa Blanca as the first tourist destination in Lanzarote and the main supporter of the municipal economy. "In Playa Blanca we have the best tourist offer on the Island and three-quarters of the population are concentrated there and that requires an effort to respond to the needs of the residents. An effort that we are making and that we are redoubling every day," said the new mayor, recalling that in Playa Blanca the execution of the Atlantic Park with sports courts is approaching and the works to expand the port and the secondary education center are underway, "two projects unblocked by the local administration."

The commitment to revitalizing citizens was the fifth line of action outlined by the mayor. Here he had specific words for the promotion of cultural and sports activities that promote healthy habits aimed primarily at young people "that also favor the meeting of our population in public spaces."

"Acknowledgements"

The new mayor of Yaiza thanked the residents "who with their vote made it possible for Unidos por Yaiza to be the majority force" and all the councilors who have supported him to preside over the City Council of his municipality until May 2019. He also highlighted "the support of the PIL and the loyalty and the work and commitment of the councilor and government partner in Yaiza, the councilor Daniel Medina."

With emotion he referred to Gladys Acuña Machín. "To her, to the trust she placed in me, I owe my political career and my way of understanding public service. I have been by her side these years, I have seen the emphasis and the efficiency with which she has led this political project and I can only show her my gratitude and my total conviction that they will soon restore her from the injustice that has been committed against her." Óscar Noda also had words of gratitude for the former councilor José Antonio Rodríguez, and "a heartfelt message addressed to his family members for the support given now and always since his entry into politics."

Noda is a resident of Yaiza, a computer engineer graduated from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 36 years old, and councilor of the Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) party and head of the Economy and Finance Area of Yaiza since the last legislature.
