The counselor of the Mixed Group in the Island Council of Lanzarote, Óscar Noda (Unidos Por Yaiza), has requested this Monday the appearance of the president of the institution, Oswaldo Betancort, to report on the state of the Renewable Energy Acceleration Zones (ZAR), agreed with the Ministry of Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands.

“It is quite curious that the Cabildo president's fondness for continuously publishing videos only serves, for the most part, for trivial matters or to massage his ego," Noda has indicated. "When it comes to dealing with the important matters of the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort resorts to the typical tricks of someone who has been operating in politics their whole life, that is, absenting himself from plenary sessions, not answering, or blaming others, being his most common way, lately, of facing problems, to embrace silence thinking that the opposition will forget or that citizens will not notice his schemes," he added.

The mayor of Yaiza has also assured that the integrated water cycle procedure is "one of the latest cases of selective mutism". He has also indicated that “it is also the case of the controversy that arose around the ZAR zones and the negotiations with the Government of the Canary Islands, let's not forget, his party colleagues".

Likewise, Noda has highlighted that after the lack of communication about the problems of the integrated water cycle, Betancort is in a "dangerous silence" about the installation of renewables on the island, which he has described as "a new lack of respect for the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa".

"For public consumption he has said no to the proposal, together with the Fuerteventura Island Council, but of the subsequent negotiations he has not said a word, nor of the signed agreement", he has stated. "It seems that Oswaldo Betancort does not realize or, does not want to realize, that we are talking, among many other issues, of a high occupation for solar plants in several areas of the island or of wind turbines in Playa Quemada and at the gates of the Timanfaya Visitors' Center", he has highlighted.

"Silence is not an option for Oswaldo Betancort on this issue. It shouldn't be on any. This is a capital issue. The opposition deserves to know what is happening in the depths of that negotiation with the Government of the Canary Islands and the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa too", the counselor continued in a press release.

"Enough of hiding important information from those who will truly be affected by what has been discussed. And, for all this, I request the appearance, once again, of the silent one, when it suits him, Oswaldo Betancort,” concluded Óscar Noda.
