The port of Órzola is among the ports proposed this year to apply for the international Blue Flag distinction, a recognition that certifies environmental quality, safety, and excellence in services provided to citizens.

The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, points out that “Órzola's candidacy is a sample of the coordinated work that has been carried out to improve our infrastructures and reinforce their environmental quality”. “This recognition, if achieved, would reinforce the image of our municipality as a benchmark for sustainability and care”.

For his part, the Councilor for the Primary Sector, Fernando Fontes, highlights that “aspiring to the Blue Flag implies advancing in better services and more efficient management for the port of Órzola”. Fontes points out that “it is a strategic point for fishing activity and local economic development”.

The proposal comes from Puertos Canarios, within its strategy of modernization and improvement of the autonomous port infrastructures. The incorporation of Órzola in this process represents a significant step in the commitment to consolidate this territory as a sustainable, accessible, and committed space with its natural environment.

The award, granted internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and coordinated in Spain by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), requires compliance with rigorous criteria related to environmental management, user information, accessibility, safety, and the quality of facilities.

From the Haría City Council, it is highlighted that this candidacy "not only emphasizes the potential of the port of Órzola, but also reinforces the commitment to a balanced development model, which combines economic activity with environmental protection and the continuous improvement of public services".
