The Cabildo of Lanzarote presented this Wednesday a new edition of Lanzarote Recicla, the most consolidated environmental education campaign on the Island, which each year adds participants and multiplies activities around the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste.

The Councilor for Waste, Domingo Cejas, was in charge of announcing the novelties of the 2025/2026 program, stating that the forecast is to continue growing in participation and programming, so he invited educational centers to massively join the activities that are designed for them, detailed the councilor before clarifying how school recycling workshops are recovered for this edition in the Christmas and Carnival seasons.

Cejas has underlined the transformative nature of the project: "Lanzarote Recicla is not just a campaign, it is an awareness network that grows year after year thanks to the commitment of schools, families and groups. The future of our island depends on our ability to reduce and properly manage waste."

The councilor has made it clear that the alliance between institutions, companies and citizens is key to moving towards a circular economy model. Lanzarote Recicla is the most participated environmental education program of the Corporation and will continue to evolve with new methodologies and strategic alliances.

Recicole, Solidarity Sneakers, Ecopilas Forest, etc.

This year's campaign will include proposals as diverse as the Recicole program, aimed at educational centers; the collection of batteries through the Ecopilas Forest; the Solidarity Sneakers program, destined for Equatorial Guinea; or the collection of Solidarity Caps in support of the Iraitza Association.

In addition, visits to the Zonzamas Environmental Complex are scheduled, where schoolchildren learn firsthand about the treatment of waste on the island; or the various educational campaigns that address composting, recycling from home, etc.

"Our commitment is to strengthen the circular economy and citizen awareness with new investments and campaigns, because recycling begins at home, in schools, in businesses and in institutions. There is still a way to go to continue improving the percentages of selective collection and reduce the waste that ends up in the landfill cell," added Domingo Cejas.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Waste Area, collected a total of 7,171.96 tons of separated waste during the first semester of this year 2025, a figure that reflects the growing commitment of citizens to recycling and environmental protection
