The president of the Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Teguise, Belén Machín, believes that after Ginés González's decision to leave the Vox political party, with which he ran in the last elections, the formations with the capacity to articulate majorities in the municipality must "seek stability".
For Machín, “the current government majority of CC, PP and Vox would be in an irregular situation, since the Vox councilor until this Monday, Ginés González, would be classified as a turncoat”, a situation that according to her “worsens the image of the municipality in terms of democratic quality and public example”.
“It is not enough that Teguise was the first municipality in the Canary Islands to be governed by the far right, but now we are going to raise the level by leaving a turncoat in the government group,” says Machín.
And it is that, for the Canarian, “the residents of Teguise do not deserve the image that has been given during this year of mandate, opening headlines and critical opinions about the presence of the far right in the municipal government”. Now, says Machín, “it is up to CC and PP to redirect a situation of defection in their government group that worsens the democratic image of the municipality and limits governability”.
However, from NC-bc they respect the decision of any councilor or person to stop militating in a political party, but as long as they leave the councilor's office out of respect and democratic coherence. In the same way, they consider that this act of councilor Ginés González "does not cover up his previous positions on sensitive matters such as equality, gender violence or immigration, where he has defended the postulates of the far right tooth and nail".
“He will stop militating in Vox, but each of us is defined by our actions and opinions. Some have already recorded what opinions and acts define them,” says Belén Machín.
