NC-bc demands the immediate reopening of the Tías municipal swimming pool under direct public management

After 16 years of closure and more than 100,000 euros per year in maintenance, the Canarian party criticizes the lack of political will and rejects new tenders that have not yielded results.

From the Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) of Tías, they consider that "the time has come to put an end to the permanent mockery towards the residents of the municipality in relation to the Municipal Swimming Pool, an installation that has been closed for more than sixteen years despite the continuous announcements of reopening."

In recent days, the Popular Party has once again raised the “hackneyed start-up” of the swimming pool, proposing another public tender, after three failed attempts and the evident lack of political will of the PSOE government group to provide a real solution.

For the Canarian spokesperson, Juan de León, “we understand that the solution does not involve insisting on formulas that have proven to be ineffective. It is time to bet on direct management from the administration itself, thus guaranteeing a quality and stable public service, for the exclusive benefit of the residents of Tías”.

What cannot be allowed is to keep the pool in absolute abandonment; not having seriously explored the option of ceding its use to swimming clubs on the island under the commitment to open it to the public; and continue spending more than 100,000 euros per year on maintenance without citizens being able to enjoy the facilities.

At this point, it is unacceptable to continue listening to the delegated councilor state that the pool “is on the right track” and that its financing could depend on alleged income from concessions in socio-cultural centers or future works in Puerto del Carmen. That is not planning, it is improvisation, NC-bc points out.

The Tías Municipal Swimming Pool cannot continue to be a bottomless pit, deteriorating year after year while public money is injected without offering any social return”, expresses de León, who “demands that the government group assume its responsibility once and for all and start up the swimming pool under direct public management, in defense of essential services and to guarantee that the citizens of Tías finally have decent, useful facilities open to collective enjoyment.”
