From the Local Committee of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) in Tías, we demand that the City Council carry out a technical study of the recycled rubber pavements installed in the municipality's playgrounds following scientific investigations that have warned about the presence of potentially dangerous substances in this type of material.

Research from the Institute of Environmental Diagnosis and Water Studies (IDAEA-CSIC) has identified potentially dangerous chemical substances in materials made from recycled rubber and has studied the release of certain compounds into the environment.

These findings do not demonstrate that all pavements are dangerous nor that their use directly causes illnesses in children, but they do justify that administrations evaluate these materials and determine if it is necessary to adopt preventive measures.

"From NC-BC we do not want to generate alarm among families. We want information, prevention, and solutions," points out Juan de León, spokesperson for the Canaristas, who continues by highlighting that the municipality "suffers high temperatures and sun exposure for a large part of the year, and it is necessary to know the composition and condition of these pavements and evaluate their possible risks."

Therefore, the Canaristas demand that the municipal government of PSOE and Podemos promote a rigorous technical study, identify the playgrounds that have these surfaces, and make the results public so that families have clear and verified information.

If the evaluation detects risks that require intervention, the City Council must adopt the necessary measures and consider replacing the affected pavements with suitable alternatives.

From NC-BC, we believe that the protection of children must translate into action. We are not asking to indiscriminately remove all pavements without first knowing their characteristics; we are asking that they be studied, evaluated, and that decisions be made based on technical and scientific criteria.
