The Arrecife City Council has organized this morning the first of the two tests for obtaining the Municipal Taxi Driver's Permit of Arrecife. A total of 56 people, the largest turnout in the history of taxis in this municipality, showed up this Thursday at the Municipal Archive to take the first of these multiple-choice tests. 68 applications were admitted.
The Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León Machín, set as one of the priorities of the Government's action to strengthen public transport in the city, both in the taxi service and in the Municipal Bus Transport, with the implementation of different measures, several of them already underway since last year.
This Thursday, the Department of Transport and Mobility, led by councilor Mario González Altube, has carried out the first of these tests to obtain the Municipal Taxi Driver's Permit of Arrecife, which will allow those who pass to cover the labor demand in this sector, and to cover the different shifts throughout all days of the week and year.
To these exams, the first of 2026, a high level of aspiring individuals are attending for the first time in history, 56 out of the 68 admitted. The taxi guild in the city of Arrecife demands many professionals to supply the shortages they have of drivers. The relaunch of leisure in Arrecife, plus commercial revitalization, and the boom of this capital as a tourist destination, combined with the needs of residents, has been generating for some time that taxi vehicles are in high demand for travel.
Together with more taxi professionals, the City Council has launched during this term a line of aid to the sector to enable the adaptation of the fleet for travelers with PMR, and has established, with good organizational results, a rotating taxi shift in the city, on days of cruise ship escalations, which remains in effect in this current autumn and winter 2025 / 2026 cruise season.
Councilman González Altube, present this Thursday at the Municipal Archive during the development of these exams, continues to plan more actions that contribute to a substantial improvement of the public taxi service in the city of Arrecife, combined with better routes and schedules for the Urban Buses, which in the coming days will debut modern electric vehicles.
