The Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and La Graciosa has organized a new adapted visit to the Cueva de los Verdes, within the framework of the Insular Strategy for Accessibility and Inclusion. The activity has allowed several members of the UNINSU Sports Club to tour this emblematic space using Joëlette chairs.
Eduardo Martínez, president of the Sports and Social Association La Vida Sigue en + (Positive), also participated in this new experience. The tour was supported by people belonging to the Cabildo's Network of Centers, TRI WWW volunteers, and members of the association itself, who were in charge of piloting the chairs.
The Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, highlights that “giving continuity to this experience means continuing to demonstrate that accessibility is built with actions. We want people with disabilities to be able to participate and enjoy our heritage, our natural spaces, and leisure activities on equal terms”.
Acuña also emphasizes that “when administrations, associations, sports clubs, and volunteers work together, we are capable of transforming the participation possibilities for many people”.
For his part, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Tourism Centers, Ángel Vázquez, has highlighted that “these experiences help us to continue advancing so that our Centers become increasingly accessible and so that Lanzarote's heritage can be enjoyed without personal circumstances being a barrier”.
Vázquez also thanked “the commitment of the volunteers and all the people and entities that make this initiative possible, because their involvement shows that accessibility is a shared responsibility”.
UNINSU, protagonist of an inclusion day
The visit to the Cueva de Los Verdes included three representatives from the UNINSU Sports Club, including its president, Javier Roldán. This club, based in the Villa de Teguise, is a pioneer in Lanzarote in the practice of electric wheelchair hockey, and is also the second club of its kind in the Canary Islands.
Participation in this activity coincides with the growing recognition of the team outside the island. Last March, UNINSU participated in the IV Villa de Malgrat Friendship Tournament, held in Barcelona, with the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the Inclusion Area.
