The forest fire in Puntagorda (La Palma) has changed the development of the solemn act of taking office of the Government of the Canary Islands, held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife but presided over telematically by Fernando Clavijo from La Palma, where he traveled to follow the extinction work.
"We do not choose the context in which we govern, but we do choose how we react to it," said the President of the Canary Islands from a distance to his new government.
"We said that we had to get used to living in change and this is the change, the first telematic inauguration in the Canary Islands," he pointed out.
The Government of the Canary Islands is supported by an agreement of four parties: Canarian Coalition (CC), Popular Party (PP), Gomera Socialist Group (ASG) and Independent Herreña Group (AHI). All except ASG have councilors in the executive.
The opposition includes the PSOE, which won the elections without a majority and without the possibility of re-editing the progressive pact of the previous legislature, Nueva Canarias and Vox.
The President of the Canary Islands, whose telematic intervention took place from the headquarters of the Cabildo de La Palma, was accompanied by two of the new councilors, the two from La Palma, who took office on their island due to the fire: Nieves Lady Barreto, Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security, and Mariano Hernández Zapata, Minister of Ecological Transition and Energy.
The rest of the members of the executive took office at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Clavijo showed his gratitude to them, especially to his vice president, Manuel Domínguez, president of the PP of the Canary Islands, for "his generosity", for "making everything so easy" and for "putting the interest of the Canary Islands above everything else".
First, Manuel Domínguez swore his position, who took office as vice president and as Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed.
Then the rest of the members of the Government promised or swore their positions.
The executive is made up of thirteen ministries: there are seven councilors from the Canarian Coalition (CC), five from the Popular Party (PP), including the vice president Manuel Domínguez, and one from the Independent Herreña Group (AHI).
The composition of the new Government of the Canary Islands is as follows:
Fernando Clavijo Batlle, President of the Canary Islands (CC).
Manuel Domínguez Rodríguez, Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed (PP).
