The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, momentarily halted the resurfacing works on the LZ-58 road connecting El Peñón and La Vegueta on Tuesday morning due to discrepancies regarding the execution of this project.

As you will recall, the reinforcement works of the pavement began this Monday, April 27 and have an estimated execution period of two weeks.

According to what Machín explained to La Voz, Public Works operators "swept all the dirt and gravel from the road towards the edge and left it there". "The first thing they should have done is sweep and the engineers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote agreed with me," he continued.

Likewise, he has pointed out to this media outlet that the works were not being carried out properly because they were not repaving up to the very edge of the road.

The mayor points out that they had already paved a large section of road "but they hadn't swept." Faced with this situation, Machín decided to obstruct the passage of the machinery so that the operators would not continue with the work. "I stood in front of the machine so they wouldn't continue," he said. In this regard, the mayor has

"I told them I would let them continue if they were going to re-asphalt to the shore and sweep, that it wouldn't cost them that much, but now it's going to cost them double," he said. Local Police officers from Tinajo also went to the scene, to whom Machín communicated that "he would be responsible for the consequences".

After these moments of tension due to disagreements in the work, Jesús Machín allowed the workers to continue after talking with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and having cleaned part of the roadway. The rest of the material that needs to be cleaned will be removed thanks to an urgent budget from the first institution, as has been announced.

"What happens is that when the projects are done, it seems they are carried out by saving and begging the Cabildo, and what bothers me most is that the counselor came, took the photo, and left," he criticized in relation to Jacobo Medina, counselor of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
