Ironman Lanzarote 30th Anniversary Gala

The Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrated this Tuesday the commemorative event for the thirtieth anniversary of the Club La Santa Ironman Lanzarote in Jameos del Agua. The event will take place next Saturday, May 21, with 1,251 registered triathletes, who will test their physical and mental abilities in a race consisting of 3.8 km of swimming, 180.2 km of cycling and 42.2 km of running.

“For Lanzarote, it is great news that the 30th anniversary of Ironman coincides with the end of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic and that, once again, it welcomes prominent athletes from all corners of the world,” said the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo.

Corujo emphasized that this competition “has contributed to forging the Isleña brand as an international benchmark sports tourism destination”. That is why the president congratulated Club La Santa for this anniversary, “and also for its impeccable work". "And my congratulations to Kenneth, for his excellent career in the field of sports tourism,” she added.

At the commemorative event, the flags were raised for the 30th anniversary, several videos were shown referring to the evolution of the event since 1992 and another video paying tribute to those people who participated in this competition.

Also, distinctions were given to companies and volunteers who make it possible for the event to take place in the best way. To conclude the event, there was a performance by the ‘Isla de Lanzarote’ Gymnastics Club and, finally, the president of Club La Santa, Frederick Sohns, and the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, spoke.
