Lanzarote will reach 70% of those vaccinated against Covid with a full schedule this Friday

La Gomera will also do so "in a few days" and Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are also expected to achieve it "in the very near future", according to the Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Lanzarote will achieve this Friday the objective of having 70% of its target population with the complete vaccination schedule against Covid, according to the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, at the press conference he offered this Thursday after the Governing Council.

In it, he stressed that there are already 1,241,771 people in the Canary Islands who have received the complete vaccination schedule against the coronavirus, which represents 63.3 percent of the target population over 12 years of age. In addition to Lanzarote, La Gomera is also expected to reach 70% of its population "in a few days".

As for the rest of the islands that have not yet reached this percentage, which are Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Trujillo has pointed out that they are also expected to do so "in the very near future". And, he pointed out that despite the decrease in the supply of Moderna vaccines, "there has been a notable increase in the supply of Pfizer, so that there will not be a supply vacuum in the coming weeks."

72% of patients in the ICU, "unimmunized"

On the other hand, the Minister of Health has pointed out some data on the relationship of vaccination with infections and hospitalizations. In this regard, he explained that, of the 10,796 cases of coronavirus diagnosed in the last two weeks, 2,411 had received the complete vaccination schedule, which represents 22.3% of the total. The remaining 8,385, 77.7%, "were not immunized", that is, "they had not received the vaccine or only the first dose."

He also detailed that of the 364 people admitted to conventional beds in the last two weeks, 70% were unimmunized", as was "72%" of the 57 admitted to the ICU". "These are data that we provide not only because of the importance of the data, but so that you can see the key element that the vaccine means, in relation to the fight and control of the pandemic and, above all, the non-saturation of hospitals, at this time," he added.

Thus, Trujillo has made a new call to the population to participate "widely" in the vaccination. However, he said that, since it has been opened to all age groups without appointment, the participation of the population is being "tremendously favorable."
