The mayor of the Haría City Council, Alfredo Villalba, requests the Cabildo de Lanzarote to build a new walkway in Arrieta to guarantee safety, instead of the restoration work that the Insular Institution has announced.
Alfredo Villalba maintains that the recovery of the La Garita beach walkway involves "the construction of a new, durable, and safe infrastructure, not a simple restoration, as the safety of its users must be a priority.
The mayor believes that this initiative requires a structural study to determine the condition of the structure, while also pointing out that the recently released report is based on a visual inspection, which is why he considers that "it does not provide sufficient technical information to determine the feasibility of a comprehensive rehabilitation of the infrastructure," he stated.
Villalba recalls that the walkway remains closed to public use "due to the absence of an exhaustive analysis of its structural elements," beyond the visible damage resulting from the passage of time and constant exposure to the marine environment. Therefore, Villalba maintains that the most appropriate alternative involves executing a new installation adapted to current needs and with a prolonged useful life, guaranteeing its total safety.
The mayor points out that the City Council is committed to a new walkway and understands that the Cabildo de Lanzarote, together with the Government of the Canary Islands, must assume the necessary investment so that Arrieta has an infrastructure "modern and prepared for the future," he concluded.
