The socialist mayors of Lanzarote have demanded that Oswaldo Betancort stop hiding information from the town councils about the situation of the integral water cycle and immediately provide all documentation related to the management of the service.

The PSOE mayors have sent a letter to the Water Consortium of Lanzarote given the time elapsed without the Consortium Assembly being convened and without the municipalities having received information about the current situation of the integral water cycle.

For the socialists, it is incomprehensible that a matter of such importance for Lanzarote remains surrounded by a lack of information and that the town councils have to formally request documentation that should be made available to them with absolute transparency as partners of the Consortium.

The mayors consider that Oswaldo Betancort must explain what is happening with water management and account to the municipalities for the decisions being made, especially at a time marked by the new stage opened after the process of rescinding the concession to Canal Gestión.

Specifically, the socialist mayors request a copy of any allegations that Canal Gestión may have submitted in the concession rescission file, as well as the response from the Consortium, if any.

They also demand to know about any legal proceedings that Canal Gestión may have initiated and to have a copy of the lawsuits and all documentation submitted in those proceedings.

The request also includes the operating account from the day the Consortium took over management, a fundamental document for understanding the economic situation of the service during this period.

They request a report on billing incidents

The PSOE mayors also demand a report on any incidents that may have occurred in billing due to the lack of availability of an updated customer database, a situation about which they consider it essential to offer explanations to the municipalities.

Finally, they request a copy of the instructions formally and in writing given to the new management, with the aim of knowing what guidelines have been established to manage this new stage of the service.

Likewise, they consider that Betancort cannot continue managing a matter of this importance behind the backs of the town councils and recall that the municipalities are part of the Consortium and have the right to know the situation of the service in detail.

“Water is one of Lanzarote's main problems and cannot be managed with opacity. Oswaldo Betancort has to convene the Assembly, provide the documentation and explain to the town councils what is happening and what decisions are being made,” say the socialist mayors.

From the PSOE of Lanzarote, they insist that transparency is especially necessary at a decisive stage for the future of the management of the integral water cycle on the island and warn that they will continue to demand all the necessary information to exercise control over an essential public service for the citizens.
