The Cabildo of Lanzarote has already started the legal battle against the Regional Aquaculture Planning Plan (PROAC), which allows the installation of marine cages throughout the coastline between Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen.
For the moment, it has filed an administrative contentious appeal against the bases and has already prepared another against the detailed planning, which will be presented "in the coming days".
This was conveyed this Thursday by the president, María Dolores Corujo, to the town councils, the Fishermen's Association and the tourism employers, with whom she has met to inform them of the initiatives taken by the Island Corporation against this document approved by the Government of the Canary Islands.
The Plan was approved in the last legislature, under the presidency of Coalición Canaria, and based on it, the detailed planning was published a few months ago, already with the current regional government.
Since then, both the Cabildo and the affected institutions and sectors have been expressing their rejection, and from the Island Corporation they announced that they would address the regional Executive with a requirement. However, as Corujo explained at the meeting, the Cabildo's "requests" have been "rejected", so they have initiated legal action.
"From the Institution we represent the entire Island by unanimously defending our territory. This entails defending the interests of the entire population of Lanzarote against the Government of the Canary Islands, to maintain the characteristics of our unique landscape and thus establish a sustainable tourism model," said the president.
In addition, the Cabildo has expressed its gratitude to the City Council of Yaiza and Tías "for having transferred all the information they have available so that we can all reach an agreement."
