The Cabildo of Lanzarote has taken a decisive step to strengthen care for the dependent population of Lanzarote by unanimously approving, in the plenary session this Friday, the beginning of the administrative file to request the Teguise City Council to transfer the use of a property located in Guatiza. The objective is to allocate this space to the creation and management of a new island social health center.
The proposal, defended by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, is based on the need to expand and strengthen the network of island care resources.
Details of the legacy and the Cabildo's proposal
The plot, of more than 3,200 square meters, together with a house of 312 square meters of constructed area, was bequeathed to the Teguise Consistory by Salvador Pedro Marcial Placeres Díaz, with the condition that the public spaces that are created bear the name of Eustachio de León Placeres and Jesús Salvador de León Placeres.
The Cabildo considers that this property meets the ideal conditions for its adaptation and implementation as a family respite center, given the growing need for places and care services for people in a situation of dependency in Lanzarote.
Acuña emphasizes that this legacy constitutes an altruistic gesture of enormous value, which will allow us to continue building, from collaboration and shared planning, a more inclusive and supportive island. "This property meets the ideal conditions for its adaptation and implementation as a family respite center, responding to a growing need for places and care services for people in a situation of dependency in Lanzarote," Acuña stressed.
Impact on families
The councilor stressed during his plenary speech that this step "opens the door to a new essential resource for the island, in a municipality that until now did not have a social health center of these characteristics." He added that "each new infrastructure of this type is a relief for families and an improvement in the quality of life of users, who will have comprehensive care adapted to their needs."
With the plenary approval, the Cabildo of Lanzarote will initiate the necessary procedures to formalize the request to the Teguise City Council, also assuming the commitment to comply with the testamentary condition of naming the public spaces in memory of Don Eustaquio de León Placeres and Don Jesús Salvador de León Placeres.
