Lanzarote starts preventive talks on the beaches starring the elderly

The prevention talks 'For a safe summer' begin this Tuesday in the Aquabeach sessions that take place on the beaches of Guacimeta and El Reducto

Lanzarote starts preventive talks on the beaches led by the elderly.

The Senior and Intergenerational Relations Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has started this Tuesday the healthy talks given by professionals and starring the dozens of people who participate in the Aquabeach sessions.

This novel activity is part of the Active+Vital Rejuvenation Plan, which is implemented by the Cabildo de Lanzarote. Specifically, the cycle of talks has started on the beaches of Guacimeta, in Playa Honda (San Bartolomé), and immediately afterwards it has been developed in El Reducto (Arrecife), also during the morning.

The Councilor for the Elderly and Intergenerational Relations Area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Nori Machín, as well as the Island Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Francisco Javier Aparicio, and the Manager of the Entity, Enrique Espinosa, were present at the start of these activities.

This series of talks linked to the successful practice of Aquabeach are being led by the expert instructor from the Lanzarote Health Area, Benjamín Nieves, who breaks down a practical dynamic on the provision of first aid.

“The objective is to give our seniors new useful tools, and that they know some basic issues in healthy prevention, as well as the guidelines to follow when trying to save a life in the midst of an emergency”, Nori Machín clarified, who thanked the Security Consortium and the Lanzarote Red Cross for their collaboration in this initiative.

In a total of nine beaches

Nori Machín also recalled that the talks that began this Tuesday will be deployed in a total of nine beaches in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. “We continue to promote active and healthy aging aimed at the population”, the councilor stressed.

The talks last approximately half an hour. Seniors have been able to learn about first aid in an emergency. In some simple practical exercises they have learned to respond to a possible choking, and they have also practiced performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a step to follow after asking for help and calling 1-1-2.

Like the Aquabeach sessions, these new preventive talks “For a safe summer” that have begun on the beaches of Guacimeta and El Reducto will continue during the next weeks in the Hotel Fariones (14); Las Cucharas (16); Caleta de Famara (16), Playa Dorada (19), Caleta de Sebo – La Graciosa (20), Caleta de Caballo (21) and La Garita (22).
