The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the company awarded the works, the UTE Tiagua-Horinsa, have signed this Tuesday the staking act that will allow the start of the sanitation works in the coastal town of El Golfo, in the municipality of Yaiza.
The project, awarded for an amount of 1.4 million euros and with an execution period of 10 months, contemplates the installation of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the construction of the sanitation network and a storage and reuse system for treated water. "This is a long-demanded action, which had been paralyzed in the offices for years and that the current government group, presided over by Oswaldo Betancort, has managed to launch in record time," they point out from the Cabildo.
The president of the Cabildo and of the Water Consortium of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, has assured that "today we are taking a historic step that unblocks a project stuck for years and that was a fair demand of the residents of El Golfo. This government promised to unblock it, and we have fulfilled it. The signing of the staking act is the guarantee that the machines are going to enter and that the transformation of the town is already a reality. We keep our word and ensure public investment with the aim of not losing state funding for this work that originated in an agreement of 2017 and whose deadline is December of this year."
For his part, the Minister of Water and Vice President of the Water Consortium, Domingo Cejas, has remarked "the effort made to reach this point", asserting that "this same day begins to run the execution period of a strategic work that will guarantee a qualitative leap in the quality of life of residents and in the environmental sustainability of El Golfo. The technical team of the Consortium has worked professionally to make this signature possible and try that the inaction of the previous government does not suffer the residents of El Golfo. Renouncing this work was never an option of the current island government."
A staking act constitutes the formal acceptance that the contractor can start the works, confirms that the location coincides with the one foreseen in the project for its execution and marks the beginning of the computation of the contractual term for the execution.
With this document, the sanitation project of El Golfo officially starts after years of delay.
