Lanzarote says "yes to LGTBIQ+ Pride"

The groups joined together around a 7-meter banner with the slogan "Proud Lanzarote" forming a human flag with the colors of the rainbow and with messages of fighting against intolerance

The Commemoration Ceremony of the International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day of the Cabildo de Lanzarote

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, opened this Wednesday, June 28, the commemoration event of the International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, thanking the associations that have chosen this Casa Cabildo to celebrate "an act that unites us with a common goal: to continue demanding and promoting measures to normalize and fully accept diversity, the right of people to live their sexual orientation and gender identity freely, without fear of discrimination or reprisals."

"I believe that many of us know firsthand the reality that the group is experiencing, and that is why this act, which commemorates such a significant date that marked the beginning of the homosexual liberation movement, is essential to remember, to make visible every injustice that is being committed and to take actions that promote greater tolerance," said Betancort, who invited all those present to the lectern to express their vindictive message.

"New name, new clothes, same heart"; "My clothes don't define my gender", "I may be small but I decide who to be" or "How many more suicides do you need to realize?", have been some of those messages that have preceded the reading of the manifesto by the associations Lánzate (Nahum Cabrera), LanzaEntiende (Fran Vega) and Chrysallis (Lucía Reyes), to the intervention of the new Councilor for Social Welfare and Equality, Marci Acuña, who has addressed his first words to the workers of the area "in gratitude for their work and the celebration of this type of events, where we condemn all those actions whose sole purpose is to restrict the freedom of people and prevent their development." "From the island institution we are committed to continuing the fight for real and effective equality, where there is respect and freedom", he concluded.

The event ended with a group photo of all the groups on the facade of the Cabildo, with a seven-meter banner on the esplanade with a slogan that read "Proud Lanzarote" and a human flag with t-shirts with the colors of the rainbow, which represent the group.

Finally, Oswaldo Betancort, congratulated all the groups for the social work they do and offered them his hand "to meet again in this house, which already has its doors open to all associations to listen to the initiatives in which they consider that the Cabildo Insular can contribute to the cause and to be able to materialize and advance in matters of equality."

"Desire and enthusiasm to achieve proposals to create an area of Real Inclusion and make Lanzarote a "Pride of Island""

Betancort has wished them "a happy LGTBIQ+ Pride day" and has expressed his "desire and enthusiasm" because, "in addition to the rainbow flags that hang and will always hang from the facade of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, we achieve with this vindictive action and other tangible proposals that will involve creating an area of Real Inclusion, making Lanzarote a "Pride of Island".
