The Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa officially presented the data and novelties that will mark the celebration of the 37th Lanzarote Crafts Fair. The regional event, which will take place at the Mancha Blanca fairgrounds in Tinajo, experiences notable growth this year by bringing together more than 140 participants among artisans, collectives, and institutions.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, opened the presentation by thanking the effort of all those involved in the organization of the fair, with special mention to the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) and the Municipality of Tinajo, for hosting this event with such generosity and good disposition once again, highlighting the organizational effort and the economic and cultural impact of the event.
Details and novelties of the 2026 edition
The 37th Lanzarote Crafts Fair introduces important changes in its thematic and exhibition proposal this year compared to the 2025 edition. The main milestone lies in the renewal of its monographic theme: after having dedicated the previous year to traditional footwear (soletas), the current edition turns its attention to typical straw hats and hats made from plant fibers from Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
With this theme, the aim is to rescue, make visible, and safeguard the technical knowledge and the meticulous production process linked to this traditional clothing, which is so historically linked to agricultural work and Canarian identity. Likewise, the fairgrounds will reinforce their identity and cohesion through intergenerational and formative activities of great importance.
This year's program notably recovers the 'Heritage in the Hands' space, an initiative aimed at facilitating the participation of about ten elderly and veteran artisans from the island. This group of master artisans will perform live demonstrations of different traditional crafts, to strengthen the transmission of heritage to visitors and new generations. In parallel, the fair will have a training team made up of eight independent professionals, exclusively dedicated to giving workshops and educational exhibitions throughout the six days of the event.
The 37th Lanzarote Craft Fair will open its doors on Thursday, September 10 at 5:30 p.m., and from the 11th it will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., until Tuesday the 15th. Registration for the workshops can be done from September 7 at 9:00 a.m. through the website artesanialanzarote.com.
“This fair once again positions Lanzarote as the epicenter of artisanal excellence in all of the Canary Islands. Going from 120 to more than 140 participants shows that the sector is alive and strong, in addition to this governing group not sparing any support to make visible the meticulous work, traditional techniques, and incalculable heritage value that exists behind each piece marketed,” he highlighted.
The highest representative of the island Corporation insisted that we are talking about a one hundred percent inclusive fair, which we have elevated to internationalization, with the presence of Uruguay, and he made an express call to the citizens of Lanzarote “to collaborate by acquiring a small piece of culture, because buying crafts is acquiring heritage, culture, identity, economy that stays in Lanzarote, and contributing our bit so that this cultural and local heritage survives on the island.”
For his part, the island Corporation's Minister of Culture, Jesús Machín, highlighted the territorial cohesion of the event. “I believe that this edition of the Craft Fair brings together the largest cultural offering of all the fairs of this type that I have visited. For example, it balances diverse musical options: there is popular music, there are parrandas, and also proposals such as the unprecedented show ‘Acatife, echoes of women’, as a tribute to all that women contributed to the island's progress.”
Next, the CEO of Crafts, Aroa Revelo, detailed the rigorous selection process that preceded this 2026 edition. “We celebrate 37 years of history, identity, culture, and heritage. We only have to invite you to come and enjoy in person from the 10th to the 15th. Lanzarote does not need an insular fair, but a regional fair, and that is the demand we are going to make to the Government of the Canary Islands, as it is the claim that not only our artisans, but those of all the Canary Islands, always make us. We do not understand the Fiestas de los Dolores without the participation of our people, as it is part of the island's identity.”
Meanwhile, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, representing the host municipality that houses the fairgrounds, celebrated the consolidation of Mancha Blanca as the nerve center of the island's September. “For Tinajo it is a pride to once again be the beating heart of the island's traditions. We make all our municipal infrastructure available to welcome the more than 70,000 visitors expected this year. For example, the buses will be closer to the church, which not only benefits the elderly, but everyone, not only during the fair but for all the festivities,” stated the mayor, inviting everyone to participate in the reading of the opening speech this 9th at 8:30 pm.
