The office of the Biosphere Reserve of Lanzarote is in the process of organizing and cataloging its collection of marine fauna images, a collection of more than 3,800 photographs gathered by acquisition or donation from its creators, Jaime Romero and the Fotosub Lanzarote contest.

The councilor responsible for the department, Samuel Martín, recalls that among the purposes of the designation of UNESCO territories is the collection and production of documentation and informative material, with the purpose of highlighting the biodiversity of ecosystems and the importance of their preservation for future generations.

The execution of the inventory includes the enumeration and description in files of each of the selected snapshots, in order to offer the interested public sufficient and contrasted information on the variety of species that inhabit the waters of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

During the elaboration of the detailed classification, the Biosphere Reserve has started publishing on its social networks some of these striking and colorful images of fish, with general data on the family, the scientific name, the common name by which they are known in the Canary Islands and some of their physical or behavioral peculiarities.
