Lanzarote en Pie warns of going to court if Arrecife authorizes the project for the Hotel Oriental

"If Astrid Pérez grants a building permit, she will do so against the technical reports," says Leticia Padilla

Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos has announced its intention to go to the courts of Justice "whenever municipal actions result in damage to the heritage values of Arrecife."

This was announced by its spokesperson, Leticia Padilla, upon learning of the intention of the capital's mayor, Ástrid Pérez, to approve in the Governing Board the granting of a "restructuring" license for the old Hotel Oriental, on the emblematic Calle Real.

After the city dawned last October 30 "with two of its historic buildings completely demolished," Lanzarote en Pie considers "unacceptable the possibility that the damage to the architectural heritage of the capital extends to the Hotel Oriental."

According to her, "the restructuring license would allow the emptying of the interior of the building, with the consequent destruction of carpentry, original lime-based plastering, cupboards and fitted wardrobes, wooden ceilings and floors, and the interior staircase, all of them in an acceptable state of conservation according to the criteria of the island's Heritage service, typical of a bourgeois architecture of Arrecife that has almost disappeared."

"If she grants a building permit, she will do so against the technical reports”

Lanzarote en Pie claims to have had news of the existence of a Heritage report from the Cabildo, "which urges the City Council to include the old hotel in the Architectural Protection Catalog of Arrecife and to prevent and avoid any action that could lead to a risk to the integrity of the building."

"If Astrid Pérez grants a building permit, she will do so against the technical reports and the growing sensitivity of the population of Arrecife, who aspire to preserve elements of roots and affection for their city, already very deteriorated by the effect of speculation and lack of scruples," says Padilla.

Finally, Lanzarote en Pie refers to a judgment of December 3, 2019 filed by the property against the City Council for the rejection of the granting of the requested license, stating that "the chamber has only demanded the continuation of the processing of the file, without assessing whether the urban and heritage legislation protects or not its granting."
