Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) has presented a motion for debate in the next ordinary plenary session of the Arrecife City Council requesting the start of the process for the creation of a municipal Canarian wrestling school in Arrecife. The councilor of the municipal political group, Leandro Delgado, has based the demand on the objective fact that "Canarian wrestling in Arrecife has disappeared".
According to LEP, "at present, the capital of the island only has the Guadarfía Wrestling Club, which is registered in the Arrecife City Council's guide to sports clubs and disciplines, but without activity".
For Delgado, "it is incomprehensible that in the last fifteen years it has not been possible to find a formula to facilitate the creation of clubs in the municipality, or at least, promote the practice of the vernacular sport among the youngest population. In this time, more than four mandates have passed in the Arrecife City Council, with their respective government groups, without managing to establish a sustainable model over time".
From the municipal group, Lanzarote En Pie, it is considered that "the complexity in the processing, the little support from the local administration and the lack of municipal infrastructures in conditions could be some of the factors that have contributed to the practice of Canarian wrestling in Arrecife has almost completely disappeared".
For Leandro Delgado, "it is evident that the old formulas are ineffective." According to the municipal councilor, "the Arrecife City Council has to take charge because without the political will there is no management and without those basic elements what remains is stagnation, blockage and ineffectiveness".
Therefore, Lanzarote En Pie "will defend its proposal in the next municipal plenary session of Arrecife for the drafting of a project to promote and promote Canarian wrestling in the primary schools of Arrecife." In this sense, from the municipal group they maintain that "the answer is to project into the future and focus on the creation of a solid base that begins to be built from the quarry, focused on the teaching and practice in the child population".
From the municipal group the support of all political forces is expected for its proposal to create the municipal Canarian wrestling school. "We believe that by putting will into it, with the medium and long-term objective, without the administrative stress that the immediate creation of clubs entails, it could give a boost to the practice of this sport in Arrecife," concluded Leandro Delgado.
