The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Waste Area, managed by Domingo Cejas, will launch on the island the awareness campaign If you don't recycle... ouch! ouch! ouchyayyay!, an initiative promoted together with the Government of the Canary Islands and Ecoembes, the organization that for more than 27 years has promoted the recycling of packaging in Spain.
The objective of this action is to promote the correct separation of waste by citizens using folklore, humor, and Canarian identity as a common thread to explain in a close and recognizable way how to correctly separate waste in the yellow and blue containers.
This campaign on the island of Lanzarote is part of the coordinated work that the Canary Executive and Ecoembes are developing, together with the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM) and the island councils, to advance towards the separate collection objectives established by state regulations. Citizen awareness is a key element of this joint effort, which is complemented by other actions aimed at improving the separate collection of packaging throughout the archipelago and bringing recycling closer to citizens.
A campaign adapted to the island's reality
In the island sphere, the campaign will be deployed through outdoor media, local media, and communication actions adapted to the island, with the objective of reinforcing the recycling message in the different municipalities and facilitating citizens to improve their separation habits at home.
The initiative features the participation of artists Fran Baraja, Cristina Mahelo, and Bejo, as well as the collaboration of Canary creators El Típico de Tenerife and Omayra Cazorla, who contribute their style and closeness to convey the message of recycling in an enjoyable and relatable way.
