Lanzarote attends Fitur to claim its commitment to sustainable tourism

“We are achieving a more empathetic and generous tourism with Lanzarote. A tourism that consumes more, that trusts the local and that soaks up our history and our roots", says Dolores Corujo

The International Tourism Trade Fair in Madrid (Fitur)

The Cabildo of Lanzarote attends the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur) to claim its commitment to sustainable tourism. A strategy that has allowed to attract visitors more aware of the environment and the history of the Island.

The delegation of the Cabildo in Fitur is led by the island president, María Dolores Corujo. She is accompanied by the managing directors of the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism and of Tourism Lanzarote, Benjamín Perdomo and Héctor Fernández, as well as different representatives of the tourism sector of the Island.

Fitur 2023 -which will be held from this Wednesday, January 18, to Sunday, January 22- will focus on sustainability, technological innovation and specialization. Three pillars that mark the actions in tourism of Lanzarote.

Dolores Corujo argues that the Cabildo is achieving something unique. “We are achieving a more empathetic and generous tourism with Lanzarote. A tourism that consumes more, that trusts the local and that soaks up our history and our roots. For Lanzarote I want a quality tourism and maintain as much as possible the uniqueness of the destination that is why they come and what differentiates us”, she points out.

Tourism and Culture working hand in hand

The president values the work done in the tourist centers of Lanzarote. She also highlights the joint work between the Tourism and Culture Areas when it comes to merging, protecting and recovering the heritage, with a more respectful management of the territory, as defended by César Marique.

“In fact, César Manrique is more present than ever in what we do”, says the president. “And it is not only because of the promotion of his memory, but because his legacy is the roadmap of the actions we undertake in tourism, merging art, nature and tradition to have a sustainable and responsible economy”, she adds.

Meetings

Dolores Corujo recalls that during the course of the Fair, "the Cabildo will hold meetings and encounters with companies in the sector, as well as with tourist representatives of key and potentially exploitable markets for the island".

“We will continue to present Lanzarote as a destination that takes care of its nature and its culture, and that flees from massification. The data show us that this is better for our territory and for our economy”, concludes the president.
