Lanzarote and La Graciosa will be present at Fitur, the first annual event for global tourism professionals, with the aim of reinforcing their strategy as quality tourist destinations, committed to the protection and respect of the territory.
This new call will be an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the Society for Foreign Promotion (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote) to sustainable, diversified tourism aligned with the preservation of its valuable biodiversity. Turismo Lanzarote will have a busy schedule of meetings in Madrid, including the presentation of the Guide to Good Sustainable Practices, prepared jointly with the Tourism Federation, with the Biosphere certification
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlights that "this edition of an unavoidable fair for the receiving and issuing markets, will once again be an occasion and an exceptional platform to share our vision of ethical and responsible tourism".
"We want to inspire visitors to connect with the essence of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, taking care of and respecting these unique environments," emphasizes the president, noting that "economic diversification involves expanding the range of experiences we offer, always under the premise of environmental awareness."
Lanzarote will also resume its Awareness Strategy for Ethical and Responsible Tourism, presented in September 2024, which seeks to promote respect for the natural and cultural heritage of both islands. Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, stressed that "key agreements will be consolidated at Fitur that reinforce our position as leaders in sustainability and quality tourism."
Lanzarote and La Graciosa will be presented as benchmarks in tourist spending in the Canary Islands, highlighting their sustained growth and efficiency in destination management. This leadership, endorsed by the latest data from the third quarter of 2024, reinforces the image of a sustainable model that prioritizes spending per visitor over volume.
In addition, participation in this unique forum will serve to consolidate high-profitability markets such as the US and strengthen alliances focused on environmental protection. The presentation of the Guide to Good Sustainability Practices and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Charter for Sustainable Tourism will be key milestones on its agenda.
Benchmark in tourism innovation in the Canary Islands
On the other hand, Lanzarote will lead the constitution of the Governance Table of Intelligent Tourist Destination, integrating the seven municipalities of the island and reinforcing its position as a benchmark in tourism innovation in the Canary Islands.
The island will also reaffirm its commitment to sports tourism with the presentation of key events and agreements related to the Copa and Minicopa de España de Balonmano, as well as the signing of an agreement with FesTVal, consolidating its reputation as the venue for major audiovisual events, organizing the Meetings FesTVal Lanzarote professional conferences.
Likewise, participation in Fitur 2025 will include meetings with airlines, tour operators and the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands to strengthen air connectivity and regional tourism.
Oswaldo Betancort concludes: "Lanzarote and La Graciosa arrive at Fitur 2025 with a clear message: we are quality destinations that are committed to ethical and sustainable tourism. We want every visitor to be aware of the importance of protecting what makes our islands unique."
