The PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of Lanzarote has celebrated the signing of the new contract for Cleaning, Conservation, and Maintenance of the exterior spaces of the Canary Islands airports, which puts an end to the serious breaches and delays accumulated by the previous contractor at the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport.

The island secretary of the PSOE and congresswoman, María Dolores Corujo, has expressed her satisfaction with the definitive resolution of this conflict that affected the image and operation of the island's main airport for months.

“It was unworthy that one of the State's most profitable airports should present that level of neglect. The gardens, outdoor areas and accesses gave an image that did not correspond to the quality of the destination or the effort of the AENA staff and the workers themselves,” Corujo pointed out. “Today, normality and the dignity of an essential service for the tourist image of Lanzarote are restored.”

The new contract, awarded to the company Traslimp, belonging to the Mitie group, was signed on October 1, with the effective execution of the service beginning on October 2. This guarantees the continuity of maintenance and conservation work in the green and outdoor areas of the airport, the management of which had been questioned following the breaches of the previous company.

AEMA Hispánica, the previous contractor, accumulated unpaid wages to its staff and serious deficiencies in the provision of the service, which led AENA to terminate the contract. In May 2025, AEMA filed a temporary layoff plan (ERTE) that was declared effective in June by the labor authority, which forced the urgent tendering of a new file.

"We celebrate that AENA has acted responsibly, prioritizing the rights of workers and the image of the destination," Corujo added. "The César Manrique Airport is not only the main gateway to the island, but also a cover letter of what we are and what we defend: a well-cared for, sustainable Lanzarote with quality public services."
