Socialist Youth of Lanzarote and La Graciosa show their "concern about the situation that IES San Bartolomé is going through due to the absence of concierge staff since the beginning of the school year, on September 1st".
According to the statement published by the educational center itself on October 26th, the need to fill this position had already been communicated during the month of August to the General Technical Secretariat and the Insular Directorate of Education. However, on the date of the statement's publication, a substitute had not yet been hired.
From the PSOE Youth, they point out that "this situation has forced the reorganization of the institute's daily operations and other professionals at the center to take on tasks that do not correspond to their usual duties. Among the communicated consequences are the modification of opening hours, the suspension of the reprography service, and the limitation of administrative attention to families".
From Socialist Youth, we consider it necessary for the Ministry of Education, led by Poli Suárez, to offer explanations about this situation and adopt the necessary measures to fill the vacant position, ensuring that the center can carry out its activity with adequate human resources.
Agustín Leandro Viñoly García, deputy general secretary of Education, Vocational Training, and Communication of Socialist Youth of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, has stated: "We are concerned that an educational center begins the school year without having such a necessary figure as the concierge. We are not talking about a secondary issue: we are talking about the opening and organization of the center, attention to families, and the daily functioning of the educational community".
"We cannot normalize that other workers have to continuously assume additional responsibilities to cover a need that the educational administration must address. The Ministry has to listen to the management teams and the center's staff, know their needs, and offer solutions," he adds.
Socialist Youth of Lanzarote and La Graciosa demand a solution that allows for the return to normality in the functioning of IES San Bartolomé and prevents similar situations from recurring in other educational centers on the island.
Public education needs planning, resources, and adequate attention to the real needs of its centers.
