The Teguise City Council, in coordination with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as the managing body of the Natural Park, is reinforcing the signage of the areas where parking is not permitted in the surroundings of La Caleta de Famara due to the Fiestas del Sagrado Corazón de María.
As an alternative to private vehicles, the Cabildo of Lanzarote is implementing, at the request of the Teguise City Council, a special public transport service to facilitate travel to La Caleta de Famara during the main days of the festivities via lines 20 and 28.
Line 20 (Arrecife-San Bartolomé-La Caleta de Famara) will run, in both directions, between the Arrecife Bus Station, Argana, San Bartolomé, Mozaga, Tao, Tiagua, Muñique, Soo, and La Caleta de Famara.
For its part, Line 28 (Arrecife-Teguise-La Caleta de Famara) will connect, also in both directions, the Arrecife Bus Station with Altavista, Tahiche, Las Cabreras, Nazaret, the Teguise Health Center, and La Caleta de Famara.
The special service will be operational on Friday, August 28 from 9:00 PM to 4:30 AM, on Saturday, August 29 from 3:30 PM to 1:30 AM, and on Sunday, August 30 from 11:00 AM to 6:30 PM.
The combined frequency of both lines will be a bus every 30 minutes, alternating departures. Thus, each of the lines will have a frequency of 60 minutes during the established time slots.
Special Traffic Operation
The lane in the direction of La Caleta de Famara on the LZ-402 road will be temporarily closed from the roundabout at the intersection with the LZ-30 (Teguise-Mozaga). This restriction will be in effect on Friday, August 28 from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, on Saturday, August 29 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 AM, and on Sunday, August 30 between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
During these periods, this lane will be reserved for security and emergency vehicles, cleaning services, buses, and taxis, as well as for residents of the Las Laderas scattered settlement. All other users who need to access La Caleta de Famara must do so via the LZ-410 road, through the town of Soo.
Likewise, in La Caleta de Famara, the streets Brisa, Roque del Oeste, Pleamar, Sotavento, Jamo, Erizo, and Mar de Leva will be closed to vehicular traffic, in addition to the sections of El Marinero avenue between Borda and El Islote streets, and San Borondón street between Borda and El Islote.
Parking Areas
The City Council informs that from 11:00 AM on Friday, August 28, to 6:00 PM on Sunday, August 30, vehicle parking is prohibited on Brea street, from its intersection with Pleamar street to the entrance of the pier; as well as on Brisa, Jamo, and Erizo streets. The restriction also affects the stretch of El Marinero avenue between Borda and El Islote, that of San Borondón street between Borda and El Islote, and the one between Erizo and Jamo streets.
To facilitate parking for those who cannot use public transport, the Teguise City Council will set up parking areas on the west side of the town and recommends residents and visitors use these areas and avoid driving their vehicles to the areas closest to the celebration venues.
In addition, circulation and parking of vehicles over 4.50 meters in length are prohibited in the urban area, except for those duly authorized.
The mayor, Olivia Duque, points out that “La Caleta de Famara is a natural space that we must all take care of, and during the festivities, we must be especially responsible with the environment.” “From the City Council, we work hand in hand with the Cabildo, as the managing body of the Natural Park, to correctly signpost the areas where parking is not allowed and to offer alternatives that allow enjoying the festivities without the need to arrive by private vehicle,” she adds.
The action responds to the need to preserve a natural space with limited capacity and to prevent vehicles from parking in areas where it is not allowed, especially during the busiest days of the festivities. To this end, the City Council has installed informative signage warning residents and visitors of the spaces where parking is not allowed, following the indications of the managing body of the Natural Park.
In this regard, the City Council calls on citizens to avoid traveling by car to La Caleta whenever possible and to use public transport. The measure aims to reduce the pressure on a town that has limited parking areas and where parking is not allowed in certain areas due to its protected status.
