Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa (UPL) has incorporated José Torres, a professional with two decades of experience linked to the field of security and emergencies, into its political project for the upcoming insular elections.
Torres joins the project with the aim of "contributing his experience on the ground" and "working especially in three areas that he considers essential" for the present and future of Lanzarote and La Graciosa: security, emergencies, and healthcare.
His arrival responds to one of the lines that Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa wants to consolidate in this new phase: "Incorporating into politics people who know the problems firsthand, who have been close to those who face them daily, and who can contribute to building solutions from experience and not solely from offices".
“I am taking this step because I believe the time has come to defend what is fundamental for our neighbors", Torres has stated. "Security, emergencies, and healthcare cannot be understood from political acronyms, but from the real needs of people", he added.
José Torres will assume responsibilities linked to these areas with a premise he considers non-negotiable: "To listen to and defend professionals regardless of their ideology, as well as to work to ensure that citizens receive effective, dignified public services equipped with the necessary resources".
After 20 years of professional experience, Torres knows firsthand the importance of having sufficient human and material resources, good organization, and, above all, listening to those who are on the front lines every day serving the citizens.
“I am not here to defend acronyms or to pit professionals against each other because of their way of thinking. I am here to defend those who are at the service of others every day. It is possible and necessary to fight for fair healthcare, for emergencies equipped with resources and accessible to professionals and citizens, and for security that allows our people to live peacefully", he insisted.
Value to people with professional experience
From Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa, it is especially valued that people with professional experience decide to take a step forward and actively participate in building a project for the island.
The party defends that politics needs "more knowledge of everyday reality, more contact with workers, and more capacity to listen to those who know the problems" because they live with them every day.
Therefore, the incorporation of José Torres also means reinforcing "a way of understanding politics based on closeness, experience, public service, and the search for solutions" above ideological differences.
Torres faces this new stage with enthusiasm, responsibility, and an idea that summarizes the spirit with which he joins the project:
“Lanzarote and La Graciosa need us to talk about real problems and work to solve them. When a person needs an ambulance, healthcare, or protection, they don't ask what party you belong to. They ask if the system is ready to respond. That is the politics I want to defend.”
With this incorporation, Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa continues to grow and add people with experience, vocation, and commitment to the island, with the aim of building an increasingly plural, transversal, and close-to-Lanzarote society project.
Finally, they have pointed out that "improving Lanzarote and La Graciosa does not depend solely on a party label". "It depends on bringing together people willing to contribute, listen, and work," they concluded.
