The City Council of San Bartolomé will carry out on November 7, at 8:00 p.m., the appointment of the neighbor José Hernández as the new Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé. This has been agreed by the Government group in plenary session, with the aim of granting this honorary and lifetime position to this neighbor who has acted as a "catalyst for the historical memory of San Bartolomé, an indisputable protector and active defender of the ethnographic values that identify us."
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, indicated that the ceremony will take place in the Municipal Theater, within the framework of the 1st Heritage Conference 'Roots and Future', which will end that day, and emphasized that "José Hernández deserves the award of Official Chronicler of the municipality because he has always been a great defender of the cultural and patrimonial values that characterize us as a town committed to its history, offering his knowledge to children, young people and adults, because he revitalized the Municipal Archive, because his work in research transcended the insular limits and are a reference to know our history."
In the same line, the Councilor for Culture, Carmen Medina, remarked that the dedication of José Hernández "has been to study, investigate and disseminate, creating a legacy from history, becoming a reference for future generations, always looking for the possibility of sharing with his municipality the wisdom he treasures, and so he will in official exercise of his functions as Official Chronicler of San Bartolomé."
From the City Council they invite all the neighbors to attend this act that represents the deserved tribute of José Hernández and "to enjoy this gala that marks the path towards a City Council and a municipality committed to the conservation of its culture and with respect towards its most outstanding figures."
José Hernández González was also previously recognized with the distinction of Memorialist of Lanzarote, granted by the General Assembly of the Board of Official Chroniclers of the Canary Islands, held on April 18, 2015 and endorsed by the Insular Commission of Official Chroniclers of Lanzarote, as one more example of his work ensuring the sustainability of our cultural and patrimonial identity.
