The president and councilor of Primero Teguise has responded to the statements of the current Councilor for Education of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, who stated that "the construction" of a school in Costa Teguise or the "elimination of the barracks" is "not a priority."
For Álvarez it is "inadmissible" that an island councilor for Education does not consider it a "priority" to eliminate the barracks that were provisionally installed in 2008, especially when last week the "poor conditions" of the educational centers were highlighted again when classes were suspended due to weather conditions. "We imagine how schools with this type of classroom must be affected." In 2017, as during the entire past legislature, Oswaldo Betancort demanded the "elimination of the barracks and the priority of building a new school," and now he "no longer considers it."
Álvarez regrets this "change of position" with the change of position, but considers that "the worst of all is that the educational community, parents and students continue to be deceived." In the words of the president of Primero Teguise, "they don't even call them modular classrooms anymore, as they did to mask the reality, but they also continue with the same deficiencies, even with pallets as steps to access the classrooms."
Álvarez believes that the island councilor for Education "cannot remain in such a position for another second" when she "does not echo" the demands of the parents of students, who have carried out different demonstrations and demands to improve the conditions of their children in the classrooms, and provides solutions.
Álvarez also demands "responsibilities" from the government partners, both from the Cabildo and from the Teguise City Council itself, reminding them that "we held several meetings during the electoral campaign with the educational community and, both PP and Vox, promised the priority of a school in good condition in Costa Teguise, eliminating the barracks; but we do not see them raising their voices in the face of this type of statement."
The municipal spokesperson asks "if this will be the same line as the regional Minister of Education of the Popular Party", which is a government partner of Coalición Canaria. From Vox, in Teguise "we do not expect him to raise his voice" because the "mayor does not allow it", concludes Álvarez.
