From Izquierda Unida Canaria (IUC) Lanzarote, a progressive party that is part of the government coalition, its strongest condemnation has been expressed against the action organized by the far-right organization Hazte Oír in Playa Bastián (Costa Teguise), where they deployed about fifty umbrellas with offensive messages against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Environmental irresponsibility and risk to safety

Local witnesses assure that the umbrellas, installed without security measures, flew into the sea due to the strong wind that coincided with a meteorological pre-alert. This negligent act not only put bathers and marine fauna at risk, but also caused an avoidable environmental impact. The images of umbrellas floating and dragged along the coast reflect the absolute lack of responsibility of the organizers.

Orchestrated actions and links with extremist groups

According to IUC Lanzarote, Hazte Oír historically maintains links with the far-right secret society El Yunque. The organization has repeated patterns of action aimed at generating hatred and division, using front associations to infiltrate institutions and promote ultra-Catholic and anti-democratic agendas. Previous examples include the transphobic bus that traveled through Spain in 2017 and harassment campaigns against progressive politicians.

The exasperation as a political tool

These actions are part of a polarization strategy promoted by far-right sectors that seek to destabilize democratic coexistence through media lynchings, avoiding legal channels. “The fight against corruption must always be channeled through Justice, equipped with independent means and without political interference”, emphasizes the spokesperson for IU Lanzarote, Jorge Peñas Lozano.

Demands and commitments

IU Canarias demands that the authorities investigate and sanction those responsible for environmental crimes and for endangering public safety. In addition, it urges the media to contextualize these actions, showing their links with El Yunque. The formation reaffirms its commitment to the defense of independent justice, the protection of the coastal ecosystem and democratic coexistence, rejecting any form of extremism that uses lies and manipulation as political weapons.
