The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium has activated the Island Emergency Plan for marine pollution after a Moroccan-flagged tuna vessel ran aground this Wednesday morning in Órzola.

This document aims to prevent catastrophes and mitigate their effects by coordinating efforts between public, private, and civil sectors. In addition, it is periodically updated to adapt to new situations and risks.

After the five crew members, one of them a minor, were rescued, the ship began to burn. Also, the emergency services began to see oil slicks in the water.
