The Department of Cleaning of Arrecife denounces the new episode of incivility detected in Aniagua street, where municipal services found a significant volume of waste abandoned in the public highway, next to the containers themselves.
It was on Tuesday night when, through one of the street cleaning workers, who alerted to the accumulation of garbage, the situation became known.
Cleaning operators have had to spend several hours of work to remove all the waste and return the area to adequate conditions.
The images provided show garbage bags, cardboard boxes, glass bottles, containers, cans, and all kinds of waste scattered on the sidewalk and abandoned next to the containers, instead of being deposited correctly inside them.
The Department of Cleaning describes what happened as "a real shame and a lack of respect for the entire citizenry," especially given the daily effort made by municipal workers to keep the city clean.
Jacobo Lemes laments that "while Cleaning workers are on the street every day, dedicating hours and effort to keep Arrecife clean, there are people who absolutely do not care and are capable of leaving a mountain of garbage like this, with the containers right next to them."
"We can reinforce services, we can clean more, and we can dedicate all the necessary resources, but if someone decides that the street is the place where they can leave what they don't need, we will be working senselessly," he points out.
Clues about the origin of the dumping
The Cleaning Department has already transferred the case to the Police, as different tickets and other elements that could provide information about the origin of the garbage were found among the waste.
According to initial indications, the dumping could come from another municipality, so the appropriate checks are being carried out to determine where the waste was transported from and to try to identify the person or persons responsible.
Lemes emphasizes that "we cannot allow Arrecife to become the destination for waste that someone decides to transport and abandon wherever they please."
The head of Cleaning also recalls that the containers are precisely for depositing waste and that there are different municipal services for materials that should not be abandoned in the public highway.
“One thing is for a container to be full and another very different thing is for someone to decide to take bags, boxes, and bottles out of their car or business and leave them in the street. That is not a problem of a lack of containers. It is a matter of civility and respect for others,” he points out.
