The auxiliary workers of the Home Help Service (SAD) of Arrecife have called for a mobilization for September 19, at 11:00 AM, in front of the Arrecife City Council, as part of the mobilizations that will take place throughout September in different parts of the national territory.
The auxiliaries are taking to the streets to make visible the labor situation that an essential collective is going through, responsible daily for attending to and caring for people who need support to carry out the basic activities of their daily lives.
An essential service that needs dignified conditions
The workers denounce the existence of numerous problems that affect the development of their activity and their working conditions. Among their main demands are the defense of their labor rights, the existence of dignified contracts and working hours, the fight against breaches and precariousness, as well as against the so-called hour banks.
Likewise, they demand to move towards retirement at 60 years of age, taking into account the special characteristics and demands of a profession that involves significant physical and emotional wear and tear.
The auxiliaries also claim the recognition of occupational risks and professional illnesses associated with their activity, as well as greater professional and social recognition of the work they carry out.
One of the central messages of the mobilization will be the rejection of the progressive degradation of working conditions in the sector and of any model that seeks to turn the provision of care into a business at the expense of the workers.
The SAD constitutes a fundamental service for hundreds of families and dependent people. Behind each service are professionals who travel daily to homes, attend to vulnerable people, and carry out work that requires professionalism, responsibility, and significant personal involvement.
Therefore, the workers argue that a SAD that is "public, dignified, and of quality must necessarily be accompanied by dignified working conditions for those who provide the service."
"There cannot be a quality care service if those who care work under precariousness, overload, or conditions that do not adequately recognize the responsibility and demands of their profession," they argue from CCOO.
The workers call for the participation and support of citizens, of the user families, and of all those people who want to defend dignified and quality public care services.
The mobilization in Arrecife is also part of a broader movement that during September will take the demands of SAD auxiliaries to different territories in Spain. "Because caring is also working. Because those who care also have rights," they conclude.
