Health will not remove the autocovid unless the Arrecife City Council notifies the order in writing

“Either they have backed down, or it has been a communication error on their part,” says the director of the Lanzarote Health area, after the latest statements from the capital's government group

“Until we receive written notice that we have to remove the autocovid, we are not going to do absolutely anything”. This was announced this Monday by the director of the Lanzarote Health area, Noelia Umpiérrez, who believes that the Arrecife City Council may have “rectified”, following the controversy unleashed by intending to remove that facility to celebrate the Carnivals.

Umpiérrez has insisted that this request to remove the autocovid from the Fairgrounds existed, and was conveyed by telephone to the manager of Health Services. Specifically, it was through an advisor to the mayor, who indicated that they should remove it before February 1. However, she states that since then there have been no new communications, except for the statements made by both the mayor, Ástrid Pérez, and councilors of the government group, after the news became public and unleashed a wave of criticism.

“The mayor has said that she said nothing about removing the autocovid, so until there is an official communication, we understand that either they have backed down, or it has been a communication error between them”, Umpiérrez added.

Regarding that first call, she specified that it occurred ten days ago, last Friday, January 14, and insisted that the person they contacted was the manager, José Luis Aparicio.

For his part, Aparicio has also confirmed this, but agrees that since then there have been no new communications. “For the moment, unless the City Council tells us otherwise, we will stay at the Fairgrounds,” he stated.
