The Haría City Council claims from the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands that it undertakes the necessary actions to improve and maintain the Mala medical clinic in adequate conditions, whose state of conservation it describes as deficient.
The council conveys its concern about the "visible deterioration" of the health center, whose gardens show "obvious neglect, accumulation of leaves and palm tree debris next to the walls, as well as deteriorated and peeling paint in different parts of the building".
The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, claims from the Ministry of Health that it addresses this situation and plans the necessary actions to improve the condition of the clinic. “We are talking about a space that neighbors visit daily to receive health care and that must offer an image and conditions in line with the public service it provides,” he points out. “We cannot normalize a health center presenting this level of deterioration and lack of maintenance,” he adds.
Villalba considers that “it is necessary for the Ministry of Health to get involved and act, not only when a specific problem arises, but also in the ordinary maintenance of the facilities”. In this regard, the mayor calls for greater attention to the Mala clinic and a plan for conservation actions that prevent deterioration from continuing to advance.
For his part, the councilor for Health, Marcos Lemes, emphasizes that “the state and cleanliness of the gardens, the accumulation of leaves and garbage, or the deterioration of the paint and the building's structure are issues that should be resolved through periodic and adequate maintenance”.
“The residents of Mala and the municipality deserve to have a clinic in good condition and for the surroundings of the health center to be well-maintained,” states Lemes.
The Haría City Council recalls that the local clinic in Mala provides health services to the population of the area and that, since this week, it also temporarily houses the activity of the Lanzarote Early Intervention Unit. This is due to the air conditioning improvement works being carried out in the facilities of this service at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital.
The council considers that this circumstance reinforces the need for the center and its outdoor spaces to be in adequate conditions and calls on the Government of the Canary Islands to program and execute the necessary cleaning, gardening, painting, and maintenance work.
