The Haría City Council demands an urgent solution to guarantee the water supply in the Mala medical clinic, as well as complete information on the origin of the incident, the analyses carried out, and the measures adopted to ensure the safety of patients and workers, as it considers it a priority that the health center can carry out its care activities in adequate conditions of hygiene, cleanliness, and operation.

The municipal claim comes after receiving complaints from residents, patients, and workers, after which it was verified that the taps remain closed and that water jugs are used as an alternative in the restrooms and medical and nursing consultations. According to the information provided, elevated levels of vinyl chloride would have been detected in the analyses carried out in the facility, for which reason the City Council requests the official reports that allow for precise knowledge of the results, the scope of the incident, and the existing guarantees.

The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, emphasizes the need for the competent Administrations to act quickly and maintain clear communication with the City Council and the citizens. “We are talking about a health center that provides an essential service to our neighbors, so we cannot accept that a situation related to the water supply is prolonged without a clear response and sufficient guarantees for those who go there or work there,” he insists.

For his part, the Councilor for Health, Marcos Lemes, expresses his concern about the conditions under which care activities are being carried out. “We cannot consider it normal for a health center to have been operating with the taps closed for months and for the alternative for patients and workers to be water jugs in the consultations and restrooms,” he maintains.

“We demand information, coordination, and a definitive solution; it is essential to guarantee basic conditions of safety, hygiene, and dignity,” state the mayor and the councilor.

From the Department of Health, all available information will be requested from the competent Administrations and bodies regarding the analyses carried out, the communications made, the protocols applied, and the planned schedule to definitively resolve the situation.

The Consistory also considers it necessary to know since when the incident has been known, what risks have been evaluated, and what actions are being developed, taking into account that the Preventive Medicine service did not know about the problem until recent dates.

Currently, work is being carried out to condition the exterior pipes of the building, actions that could be related to the solution of the incident. However, the corporation asks that, while the works last, more effective and sufficient provisional measures be established to guarantee the correct functioning of the clinic.

The Haría City Council reminds that the Mala clinic provides medical, nursing, and rehabilitation services to the residents of the area, avoiding travel to other centers in the municipality. Therefore, it demands that the necessary actions be accelerated, the safety of patients and workers be guaranteed, and updated information be provided to municipal officials, center staff, and citizens.
