Haría announces that it will not appeal the Cueva's order to end 15 years of conflict

A Court of Gran Canaria recently ruled in favor of the City Council, ordering the Cabildo to pay almost three million euros in legal interest

The Haría City Council will not appeal the ruling that condemns the Lanzarote Cabildo to pay the default interest of the Cueva de Los Verdes, which amounts to an amount of 2,896,652 euros. This "will allow to end 15 years of conflict", the consistory points out in a press release.

The mayor of Haría, Alfredo Villalba, points out that this measure adopted by the municipal corporation has been taken after initiating a negotiation that has allowed reaching an agreement in principle with the Cabildo, which will allow "the City Council to see its right recognized in favor of the citizens of the municipality", he explains.

Court number 5 of the Administrative Litigation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria recently ruled in favor of the City Council, condemning the Cabildo to pay almost three million euros in legal interest accrued between November 25, 2010 and November 3, 2016, which must be added to the 13 million euros already won in previous proceedings, and which were already set in an addendum signed in 2020 by both administrations, which totals an amount close to 16 million euros.

Alfredo Villalba considers that this agreement in principle is a circumstance "long awaited" by all the residents of Haría, since finally "justice is done and the City Council is given the reason after years with this procedure open, since it is recognized, first that the ownership of the Cueva de Los Verdes belongs to the municipality and, later,
the right to compensation since 2010, adding the interests".

The mayor is "very satisfied" to "definitively" end this situation and guarantee that the rights of the municipality and its inhabitants are fulfilled, after resolving the conflict through dialogue and avoiding further judicial conflicts.
