Controversy over the use of the Casa del Cura. Following the announcement by the president of the Cabildo that this property will be dedicated to the elderly, the Haría City Council has responded to this announcement, denouncing "the breach of the Cueva de los Verdes agreement by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, in relation to the use of the Casa del Cura, a property that has been transferred to the City Council, as stipulated in clause 2.7 of Addendum I of judicial proceeding 46/2011 in the Contentious-Administrative Court No. 5 of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria".

The mayor, Alfredo Villalba, criticizes the attitude of the island corporation's president for not respecting institutional relations, "overriding the agreements signed in 2020." Likewise, he emphasizes that the northern City Council "has always been respectful of agreements and institutions, and has always complied with what was signed."

"No interference will be permitted in an agreement that, moreover, affects the island's network of Art, Culture, and Tourism Centers," assures Alfredo Villalba, who considers the visit made this Monday to the municipality by the president and a councilwoman to have been "electioneering" and without informing the mayor and the City Council itself.

The Haría City Council rejects the use that the Cabildo de Lanzarote wants to give to the property, because the Consistory has already acquired a plot of about 2,000 square meters to dedicate to the elderly in the municipality, knowing that the Cabildo itself tried to intervene in the purchase of the house, "so this need is already being addressed".

"This is a malicious and unfair response by the island corporation to a conflict that had already been resolved by the justice system in favor of the citizens, thanks to the work and perseverance of the City Council," says the mayor.

The City Council reserves the right to take legal action in the face of this interference of the utmost gravity, should they not retract their intentions.
