The Department of Social Welfare of the Arrecife City Council has launched this Tuesday the Workshop on Social Skills in Adolescence for the Prevention of Gender Violence through participatory theater, in which 488 students from 4th year of ESO and 1st year of Bachillerato will participate.
The initiative will be developed at the Youth House until the 28th, with daily two-and-a-half-hour sessions, combining an interactive theatrical performance with a socio-educational session
The premiere was attended by students from IES Las Salinas and IES Agustín Espinosa, who were the first to experience this form of live, dynamic theater, specially designed to analyze affective relationships and detect dominant behaviors during adolescence.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Maite Corujo, has highlighted the importance of working with young people in safe and participatory spaces that encourage reflection, and has stressed that "we want to raise awareness among our young people about the scourges that women suffer and the normalization of dominant relationships between boys and girls. Interactive theater allows us to stage real situations and promote critical and constructive dialogue. It is a very powerful tool for preventing gender-based violence from an early age."
This workshop is part of the special program that Social Welfare has organized for November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which includes activities aimed at both young people and the general public. Among these is the theatrical session "The Theater that Heals," which will take place on November 27, at 5:30 p.m., at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture
This proposal, based on the psycho-scene, opens spaces for reflection and debate on relationships, love, couples, and non-violence, and is aimed at families, professionals, and the entire educational community.
In addition, as a symbolic gesture of visibility and social commitment, the House of Culture will be illuminated in violet on November 25 and 27, between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PMIn collaboration with the Lanzarte Forum against Gender Violence, today, November 25th, a demonstration and tribute to the victims will also take place, with a meeting point at 6:30 PM on León y Castillo street (Cuatro Esquinas area), culminating at La Casa Amarilla, where the gathering will be held at 7:00 PM.
