The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Fisheries Area, wanted to highlight the work of the Torrelavega Society of Culture, Recreation and Sports in the conservation and dissemination of the heritage of the fishing industry. To this end, several representatives of the Institution attended the screening of the documentary Lanzarote and Fishing, made by the Torrelavega Society last week. This audiovisual work highlights the fishing tradition and memory of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The island's vice-president, María Jesús Tovar, the councillor for Fisheries, Samuel Martín, the councillor for Education, Ascensión Toledo, as well as the first deputy mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, among other public representatives, attended the screening of the documentary coordinated by Domingo Delgado Morín. The report is a tribute to all those people who over the years have contributed to the development of the local fishing industry.
Samuel Martín stressed the importance of this work: "From the Corporation we have come to participate and support this screening, as well as to reinforce our commitment to promoting this activity, as one of the main riches of our territory," he concluded.
The meeting served to exchange experiences around the collective memory, and received the unanimous congratulations of the island Institution to the president of the SCRD Torrelavega, Toñín Ramos, for starring in the realization of dissemination works of this type.
The documentary presents the testimonies of people who used to work in the fishing sector, highlighting its fundamental role in the island's economy and culture. It also shows how this industry supplied the factories dedicated to the export of products.
