Development investigates the causes of the incident that almost caused a tragedy in Guacimeta

The Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Commission, attached to the Ministry of Development, has launched an investigation to detect the causes that caused an airplane of the company Air Plus Comet to have a technical problem shortly after taking off from Guacimeta last Tuesday. "The little data we have makes us see that the incident was serious and deserves an investigation", argues Francisco Soto, secretary of this independent body linked to the Ministry.

In any case, this Commission clarifies that its work is based on "air safety criteria", but its purpose is not to determine responsibilities. "We do not answer questions about whether a company is safe or not. Although we can reach conclusions regarding aspects within the company". However, Spanish pilots have already taken it upon themselves to describe Air Plus Comet as one of the companies that offers them the least "confidence".

Up to 62.48 percent consider that Air Plus Comet is one of the companies "that most frequently violates air safety legislation". This is the data that emerges from a survey carried out by the Department of Statistics and Operations Research of the Rey Juan Carlos I University to 613 respondents, at the request of the Spanish Union of Airline Pilots, Sepla. From this association they assure that "since the process of liberalization in air transport began, there has been a reduction in quality margins".

The survey reflects a worrying assessment regarding the safety of airplanes by the pilots, but Sepla explains that "in general, civil aviation operations in Spain are optimal". On the other hand, this charter flight company has accumulated a series of complaints, published in the media, about problems with delays, cancellations, which have led to conveying an image of insecurity. Now, the Commission will determine the causes of the event, before which Francisco Soto anticipates that in general "all incidents occur because there has been a decrease in the established security systems that may be technical, operational, organizational or of another type".
